Who Should Be Saved?
Who Should be saved is a group activity where students receive minimal information about 12 survivors of a plane crash. Each student needs to determine who they want to evacuate first and be able to justify why.
Learning Objective: Students will be able to work together to assess the given situation and then justify each decision made as a group.
Check out the full scenario and list of survivors here.
This activity can create tension because some students have strong beliefs about who should be saved first and who should wait. Make sure to set up a safe and respectful environment before completing this activity. I like to give my students sentence stems such as:
I respectfully disagree with __ because __.
I think we should ___ because ___.
Can I ask you a question?
I don't understand why you think that. Could you explain in a different way?
